This bottling of Rued Vineyard Chardonnay represents our second effort from the famed Green Valley section of the Russian River Valley. Barrel Fermented with wild yeast in 25% new French Oak, this wines has been crafted to focus on the unique terrior of this historic site.

When you first put your nose in the 2010 Rued, you know you are about to experience something unique.  The effusive nose of warm honeysuckle blossoms, spicy pear, and freshly cut apples fill the glass.  Bright and inviting, the complex secondary aromas lift with hints of apricot, Muscat, and chamomile. Minerals and stone fruits layer the entry and give the mouth feel an old-vine character that is concentrated and oily and coats the palette more like a heavenly tincture, than a wine.

Dutton Ranch Rued Vineyard

Green Valley Ranch, also known as the Rued Vineyard, has a unique history. The 40 year old vines are the original source of the Rued clone of Chardonnay that is now propagated in various locations. The Rued clone is known for having Muscat flavors when tasted off the vine and wines produced tend to be very floral and intense.

This is the second Chardonnay vineyard Warren Dutton planted. Planting began in 1969 and was completed by 1971 with an Eastern orientation of rows planted in the old style of 8 × 12 spacing on Phylloxera resistant St. George rootstock. 2009 and was the first harvest for Chateau Boswell from this exceptional vineyard.

  2009 Vintage

  • Case Production: 96 cases
  • Vineyards: Dutton Ranch Rued Vineyard
  • Cooperage: French Artisan Oak
  • Vinification: Hand sorted, whole cluster pressed, native yeast fermentation, Sur lies with bâtonnage

Our first Rued Vineyard Chardonnay represents a mere four barrels from our newest vineyard designated offering from the famed Green Valley section of the Russian River Valley. The 40+ year old vines are the original source of the Rued clone of Chardonnay that is now propagated in various locations.

Barrel Fermented with wild yeast in 25% new French Oak, this wines has been crafted to focus on the unique terrior of this historic site. This wine displays intense notes of white flowers and honey which combine to create a deceptively elegant perfume on the nose.

Once in the mouth the wine reveals its intensity while retaining a sense of purity and balance. Focused and long on the finish, the inaugural bottling of Rued Vineyard has quickly become a family favorite. We have great expectations for this vineyard for the years to come.
