2008 Vintage

  • Case Production: 260 Cases
  • Vineyards: Dutton Ranch Morelli Vineyard
  • Cooperage: 100% French Artisan Oak
  • Vinification: Hand sorted, whole cluster pressed, native yeast fermentation, Sur lies with bâtonnage

Our second single vineyard bottling of Dutton Ranch Morelli Vineyard leaps from the glass with intense notes of lemon oil and peach coupled with subtle notes of crushed stone and toasted almonds. Focused yet soft in the mouth, this wine expresses its balance and purity with a beautiful combination of richness and acidity that culminates in a lingering finish that demands another taste. Fermented with wild yeast in eighty-five percent new French Oak and stirred on the lees for sixteen months, then bottled without either fining or filtration.

Dutton Ranch Morelli Vineyard

The Dutton Ranch Morelli Vineyard sits high on Stoetz Ridge at 850 feet above sea level only 6 miles from the Pacific Ocean within the famed sub appellation of Green Valley. Prized Goldridge fine sandy loamy soils allow for dry farming practices. Morelli Lane Chardonnay was planted in 1995 next to the Zinfandel vineyard planted in 1935. Vine Spacing is 5x9 with a full aspect slightly sloped towards the North. The clone here is a Wente derivative, a selection from Larry Hyde on 101-14 rootstock.

Green Valley is one of the smallest appellations in Sonoma County. It lies in the southwestern part of the Russian River Valley, bounded by the towns of Sebastopol, Forestville and Occidental. It is very tightly delineated, both geographically and climatically, and is the most consistent of any North Coast appellation in terms of soil and climate. The fog is Green Valley’s trademark. Green Valley is the first place where the fog comes in and the last place where it burns off, making it the coolest, foggiest part of the Russian River Valley.

Fruit development is heavily influenced by cool mornings and warm daytime temperatures providing the degree day fluctuations which provide an opportunity for optimum phenolic characteristics.

2007 Vintage

  • Case Production: 252 Cases
  • Vineyards: Dutton Ranch Morelli Vineyard
  • Cooperage: 100% French Artisan Oak
  • Vinification: Hand sorted, whole cluster pressed, native yeast fermentation, Sur lies with bâtonnage

The 2007 Chateau Boswell Dutton Ranch “Morelli Vineyard” Russian River Valley Chardonnay (252 cases) Our first single vineyard bottling of Dutton Ranch Morelli Vineyard leaps from the glass with intense notes of lemon oil and citrus coupled with subtle notes of toasted brioche. Round and soft in the mouth, this wine expresses its balance and purity with a beautiful combination of richness and acidity that culminates in a lingering finish that demands another taste. Fermented with wild yeast in eighty-five percent new French Oak and stirred on the lees for sixteen months, then bottled without either fining or filtration.

As with all of our Chardonnays the vinification follows a traditional Burgundian style process whereby the fruit is hand sorted and whole cluster pressed, and a native yeast fermentation process takes place in 100% new French Oak barrels. The wine is kept one year on the lees, stirred every week, and at one year it is, racked barrel to barrel and then aged until bottling.
